About Me

About me

A 30-something journalist and freelance writer, living it up between the bright lights of London and the calmer surrounds of Kent.   Enjoy trying new things (cake shops a particular favourite) having adventures, travelling and food.

Particular penchant for animals, with a keen interest in conservation. Likely to share a piece of animal trivia within moments of meeting you.

I don't like tomatoes.

I can usually be found behind the lens of my ever-ageing but oh-so-reliable camera, or ingesting a tower of wildlife magazines. If not, try the revolving dancefloor in Reflex, or the lion enclosure at London Zoo.

About this blog

I'm loathe to label Scribbling Lau as a 'lifestyle blog', because what does that even mean? It's been a meandering path to get this blog to where it is today, dabbling along the way in things that I felt that I should be writing about, but now I've learnt to focus on what I want to write about. I'm not one for beauty blogging, and I don't care about fashion. Books occasionally make an appearance, and I've dabbled in film and TV. What I am interested in is travel, but travel means something different to me than it does to most people.

Sometimes it's about far flung places I've visited, or photos of exotic locations. Other times it's hotel reviews and tips for fellow travellers. But more often that not it's about discovering new places and unusual things, regardless of where they are. That may just be a new coffee shop in my local town, or a secret garden 10 minutes away from where I grew up, but didn't discover until the age of 25 - and these things bring me as much joy as exotic beaches and world heritage sites. Think Atlas Obscura and you get a rough idea of what I'm aiming for.

That's not to say other things - mainly food, most likely cake and cocktails - won't make an occasional appearance, but I guarantee that anything you see on this blog will be something I genuinely like, am interested in, and think you will be too.

If you're a PR and you've got something that you genuinely think might be of interest for this blog, do get in touch. Find out more about working with me here.
